  • Sustainable Energy Model for the production of biomass briquettes based on rice husk in low-income agricultural areas in Peru.

Arévalo, Juan; Quispe, Grimaldo; Raymundo, Carlos (Elsevier B.V., 2017-12)
The proposed Sustainable Energy Model is based on rice husk and the development of briquettes made from agricultural waste, which will increase efficiency in the domestic sector, and potentially replace conventional polluting fuels such as firewood. Large volumes of rice husks from millers are found scattered in rural agricultural areas of the San Martin region of Peru, where people are exposed daily to the emissions of polluting gases produced by burning these wastes, causing respiratory and lung diseases. Despite present circumstances, this waste has a great energetic potential that is not yet used by society, representing an opportunity to encourage socioenvironmental development and generate added value to the husk. Based on a compaction and drying process, briquettes were obtained with 4,040 kcal / kg of heat power and 80.39% combustion efficiency, allowing the little use of biofuel compared to firewood, and consequently, the utilization of this biofuel would reduce levels of deforestation. In contrast to similar projects, the sustainability of an energetic model of briquette production will be achieved when economic, environmental and social aspects are met, developing clean technologies and an efficient supply chain, from the supply of the husk to the commercialization of briquettes

  • Technological transfer in public research centers: The Peruvian case

Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) (IEEE, 2014-07)
The public research centers were created to research activities and knowledge generation. Some studies, around the world, have been developed about this problematic and the opportunities for technology transfer, from these institutes. In the Peruvian case, until now, the national institutes of research have structured and applied its programs and models of technology transfer in an incipient form. Some of difficulties perceived are: the lack of studies on technology management, ignorance about other local experiences on technology transfer, the lack of comparison with technology transfer models. In this context, this paper aims to identify and analyze the technology transfer experiences since the public research institutes in Peru. The methodology consisted in the literature review over the technology transfer topic, followed by a diagnostic of the technology transfer at the Peruvian public research institutes, its discussion and analysis. Major results from the study showed a disordered sector, with lack of mechanisms for technological transfer, and scarcity of codification the few experiences. However the potential knowledge is substantial.

  • Knowledge networks to improve the technological capability in a solar energy enterprise cluster

Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) (IEEE, 2015-08)
The sector of renewable energies is studied for the possibilities that offers to take care of the environmental and energy save. In the production areas, it is need to understand some topics like the technological capability and absorption capacity, to identify the patterns of learning, to improve the knowledge generation, innovation and competitiveness. This is applied specifically in the cases of small enterprises that belong to an incipient cluster, in a region with availability of solar energy resources, like Arequipa in the south-west of Peru. In this context it's developed a study to identify the technological capability and learning aspects, for a solar enterprise cluster acting in Arequipa. The methodology is the case study, through applying a questionnaire to seven enterprises. The questionnaire was formulated according the theoretical backgrounds regarding to this theme. The results of the research are useful to planning the local development through the application of tools as the technological surveillance, technological forecasting, and also for the local technology improvement through the incentive of knowledge networks.
